Construction on the present Syriac Catholic Church in Bethlehem started in 1925. The church was consecrated in 1930 and named St Joseph. The Syriac Church in Bethlehem has two ministries that benefits the community and also helps to support the church financially.
The first ministry is a small kindergarten that was built in 1930 that is open to all of Bethlehem’s youth. The kindergarten has four rooms and fifty students.
The second ministry is the St. Joseph Pilgrims Home. Construction started in 1970, and in 1976 the pilgrim’s home opened up to receive guest from all over the world. The pilgrim’s home is located near the Church of the Nativity and many people stay at the home during their holy pilgrimages.
